Educational Outreach and Hortitherapy
Many of the programs at the McGill Rose Garden include hortitherapy (horticultural therapy), led by Eric Ritchie, Executive Director and certified Horticultural Therapist. These programs provide hands-on vocational education and also teach others to take pride in their communities and surroundings. The McGill Rose Garden is actively involved with each of these programs and schools:
- Trinity Episcopal School's 4th, 5th and 6th graders have created a garden which honors the Virgin Mary
- Carolinas Rehabilitation from CMC
- Shining Star and Project Star (programs affiliated with the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Association of NC)
- Nevins Center (an organization which helps the mentally and physically handicapped)
- Christ the King Center Pre-School
- Garringer High School — trainable handicap outreach program
- Retired Senior Volunteer Program

Community Involvement
Community involvement is key at the McGill Rose Garden. A few highlights:
- Assistance with “Friends with Flowers,” a weekly program which provides flowers for hospice patients
- 1,000 sunflowers planted and harvested on-site provide seeds for the birdfeeders at Presbyterian Hospital
- Sunflowers and vegetables grown in the "Giving Garden" are donated to the Urban Ministry and other soup kitchens in the area to help feed those in need
- Hands-on gardening workshops available for community churches, senior citizen groups, and garden clubs
- The garden provides a scenic backdrop for Charlotte Art League and other artists
- Charlotte Rose Society pruning workshops
- Labyrinth Herb Garden. See the Courtyard Herb Garden located in the atrium at Presbyterian Hospital in the Jack Matney Memorial Labyrinth. The herb garden has been contributed and maintained by the McGill Rose Garden. The labyrinth, located at 200 Hawthorne Lane, was unveiled on November 16, 2007 to the pubic. Visit other labyrinths in the area.
Chester, SC residents invited Charlotte Green and The McGill Rose Garden to tour their community garden. The two groups have formed an advisory for Chester Community Garden.
